Italian RN living in CA - need help with Licensing question

Published

Hello,

My name is Girolamo.I am 38 years old and I am Italian.

I moved to Los Angeles from Rome in January 2015, because Fox International transferred my wife back to headquarters (originally from Ohio). We also have a three year old son named Luca.

I am a Registered Nurse in Italy, a degree I obtained there in 1997. Upon my move to the US last year, I began my application for RN licensure in California so that I can practice my profession here.

Finally, after 14 months, the Board of Nursing closed my case and determined that I need take the following two courses before proceeding to the NCLEX exam: Pediatric nursing and Psychiatric nursing. They have instructed that these coursed must be from an accredited school of professional nursing in California from a list on their website: www.rn.ca.gov

The reason I am sending you this email is because I already call every university in California and they have all said the same thing: We do not offer individual courses - you need take the entire program.”

I'm sure you can understand that this is ridiculous and very frustrating for me, since my only goal is to be able to support my family by practicing my profession of almost 20 years. The success of my transition to this country as well as the well-being of my family depends on it.

I would appreciate anything you can do to help or direct me in any way.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Best regards,

Girolamo Mercede

Hi, moved to thread on its own in the Nurse Registration forum.

This is something that is happening with a lot of International Nurses and CA. You could try looking for courses outside CA and then check that CA will approve before doing the course
