It is so hard for IEN to find job in London Ontario

Published

I started to find a job this year. However, I tried applied many times for hospital job. I even didn't get an interview? Any one work in London Ontario?

Specializes in Postpartum/Public Health.

Have you reached out to the organizations where you did your clinical placements? Maybe reach out to your former preceptor to see if there are any positions in the unit you worked at?

If you aren't able to get a hospital job, maybe try getting a job in LTC? You just need some Canadian work experience, and after you got that experience it should be easier to find more positions in the future.

Wishing you the best!

- Based from my experience/failures, it is who you know & not what you know. I eventually applied as RPN in the same hospital I was doing my RPN-BScN practicum.

- The hospitals prioritized their internal staffs first before hiring external applicants. I tried volunteering & that didn't help me.  Start casual/parttime position first before fulltime. Look somewhere else/relocate/commute (driving) to get that Canadian nursing experience. Try to include "phrases" from the hospital job description to your resume.

- I tried nursing agency but I couldn't apply to same nursing home r/t conflict of interest.

I would say you  have an advantage.  I'm a Canadian trained RN, got my BSN here in Canada,  Most hospitals are only hiring IEN's from the Philippines.  I have applied to more than 80 positions at various hospitals within Toronto, I have a solid resume, two science degrees (one from York University. one in nursing of course from UNB) and IEN's are hired faster than I am.
