Hi,
I am an a recently licensed LPN starting my RN at EC. The hospital where I have worked as a nursing assistant for several years does not employ LPN's so I will be looking for a new job. As long as I am looking, I would love to try to get a job that will be in a field that will help me in my quest to complete the EC RN. (I am trying not to live in fear of those clinical exams!) I would ultimately like to go into Obstetrics or possibly the ER or OR (I cannot bear to be bored at work!). These jobs seem to be few and far between. I might also consider primary care since I think there is going to be a huge need for that and it is very important. I can't get myself excited about long term care. Colleagues have recommended trying to get a rehab hospital job for the near-acute care experience. I would love feedback on what work experience EC students and graduates feel was helpful to them in becoming competent and skilled nurses. Or if the specialty really was not important in successfully completing the nursing program, I would love to hear that, too. Thank you!

The exams test you on textbook theory. The only time I found my work experience helpful was when there questions regarding lab results on certain exams and during the CPNE in that as a hospital nurse, I was used to having people looking over my shoulders watching my every move. So, I say look for whatever nursing job that suits your fancy.
