Is This Forum On Life Support?

Published

As an RN planning on moving to Northern Virginia this summer, I have been reading this forum frequently. I have noticed that there are very few responses to questions about salaries--and more importantly--about the job outlook. Is it because most active forum members are students? Or are people just unwilling to share info because the job market is so tight?

I have had 10 years of experience as an RN in LTC/SNF, and I have been reading this forum religiously to try and discern whether I am going to have trouble finding a position in that area come summer. :uhoh3:

Can anyone just give me a little hint? Please??

I work in an ER in northern Virginia, so I have no idea what kind of salary you might expect. Have you started looking for jobs online? Some of them do list the salary, and that might give you an idea of your outlook. But yes, the job market is very tight right now. Hospitals aren't filling positions when people leave in order to avoid cutting jobs. It's not pretty. I'd share info if I had it, but I don't. But if you're looking in the NoVA area, try inova.org's website -- they have some LTC/SNF facilities, and you can see if they're posting any jobs.

i'm also moving out here soon and i'm a little worried about the job market too. Let me know if you hear anything. I'm looking for icu in the richmond area.

The job market is tight here for new grads, but with your experience, you'll have a much easier time finding a job. I don't know about LTC specifically, but in general, RNs with a few years of experience or more can expect to get paid about $30/hour. I've actually had great luck with craigslist. A lot of places in Maryland are hiring as well and are oftentimes not a far drive if you live in Northern Virginia. Good luck to you. This is a great place to live and work.

Thanks-- I appreciate the responses so far. I'll check out the sites you guys referred to. Just kind of apprehensive right now, with the job market as tight as it is. Eight years ago I could pick and choose among job offers...now I guess I will be scrounging...
