I have been a member of All Nurses (AN) since 2009. For the first several years, I mostly lurked, then began to post sporadically. Lately I have become much more active here. I enjoy have a place (albeit online) where I can interact with so many people with so many backgrounds.

I love finding members who seem to have posted my thoughts on topics (often far more eloquently than I could have) and with whom I agree on so many subjects. It is also nice to see that if another member and I disagree vehemently about something like politics, I will often read their thoughts on another topic and realize how much we have in common.

It is also good to read posts with a different point of view. Even if I still disagree, I may learn something, or understand where they are coming from.

The wisdom, humor, realism, compassion, sarcasm, passion, and truths I find here make me glad to have found this (not so) little corner of cyberspace.

Lately, however, it seems we have had an influx of new(ish) members who only want to hear what they want to hear. No advice, however sage, will be entertained, and they admonish other members to only answer their question or stay away. New members, particularly those who are not experienced nurses or nurse aides (or whatever their facility calls them) come here, read a thread and proceed to write scathing (and often grammatically incorrect) replies telling us we are mean, terrible people for having a macabre sense of humor. They dislike posts that are blunt but truthful and seem to think nurses are angels who should never experience moments of humanity.

This saddens me (although some of these overly incensed post are awfully funny, even if not meant that way.) I wish people who came here looking for advice and camaraderie would understand we all post from our own perspectives and experiences and we may reply in ways that are not always well received but just might be beneficial to the Original Poster (OP).

Please, by all means, join us. Read some old threads to gain an understanding of how things work here. Post a question, reply to a thread that calls to you. If you ask for advice, take what you will and leave the rest. But try to understand most of us are wiling to help others. We may just need to crack a joke or two to lighten the mood.

I agree. I think this is also reflecting a new crop of nurses. It seems that constructive criticism is now "bullying." I think anyone who is willing to post anything on here had better be prepared for all sorts of answers and not just what they want to hear. Since when is honesty cruel or uncaring?

Welll, I have to admit I do like to stir the pot.

I know some other posters do as well- usually the ones I really like to spend time with here.

I try to contain myself, and keep it in the more general threads, I really do. The ridiculousness that has permeated the threads started by the newer posters lately has made it difficult for me to control my quips.

There are smart and nice newer posters, but they are getting lumped in with the indignant mob of name switching click bait types.

It has been kind of fun, and it is a public message board, so what can ya do?

Anyway, ridiculous or not, I don't come here for them. I come here for my friends. :inlove:

On the bright side, there have been some interesting topics that have arised out of these new posts. A few of my favorites include the violent deer that can be mistaken for innocent Bambi and the recreational vs. work penises.

Did you see that the Bambi conversation has continued to another thread?

I did. I'm quietly observing. Don't forget the thread about the OP wanting to alert the media because her graduation was delayed by a few months.

None of these new posters want to hear anything except what they want to hear. The OP on the thread who wants to sue her school & go to the media because they put the wrong graduation date on her diploma. She got so upset at everyone who commented because no one agreed with her.

Then I commented on another post because the user, who was a new grad, was talking talking about working in PDN/HH. I said it was a bad idea to work in PDN/HH as a new grad & told the OP to go to read posts in the PDN/HH forums. She told me to not reply any more.

Both new grads, both snapping at people because they don't like what other people had to say. I hope this isn't what the new generation is like this.

Poor Meanmaryjean about got her head bitten off for pointing out to a poster that he *might* reconsider attending a school that is not accredited. *sigh*

I'm part of that new generation, but I am happy to say that I gladly ask for feedback from more seasoned individuals. They have life experiences that I do not, so I would be foolish not to listen, right?

Will someone smack me if I post as a new grad, complaining that NETY and all older nurses should go out of their way to please me?
