Is this the right profession for me? How do I start to studying again?

Published

Well I recently found out that I failed the nclex-rn for the third time. It will be almost a year since I graduated nursing school and I have yet to pass this exam. At this point I am praying for God to give me the strength to pick up and start studying again. I know I may be wrong for saying this but I question is this the right profession for me? My heart and soul is in nursing, my passion is to become a register nurse. I know that I know the material and i just have test anxiety and it gets the best of me when I'm that little room, I start to have chest pains and palms get sweaty. I need some advice and encouragement. Hopefully my next plan of action is to take a nice break and try Hurst. The first time I tried Kaplan and I'll just assume that didn't work for me. I hope to sit again in late september it early October. Just thinking about the nclex makes me

Nervous!!!!! Help!!!

Don't give up!!! You can do it. Keep trying, maybe try some other reviews such as Hurst or review the LaCharity book. I haven't taken my boards yet (I will be this week! ahh) so I'm not sure how valuable my advice is but don't give up!!

Good luck!!!! Keep on studying and please relax and be confident and you will be fine. I tried Lacharity and I will say that book is awesome for priority which is what you will see on the exam. Thanks for the encourgement:-) my mom told me just today that a failure is someone who gives up...I'm not quitter I'll pass this test eventually.

Thank you! Your mom is right, don't give up! You can do it :)

Okay, pretend that you are your patient... what would you tell you?

You say that anxiety gets the best of you, and that you've tried this three times. Sounds to me like more than you can overcome on your own. The thing about severe anxiety is that the more you try not to be anxious, the more you are going to be. If I were your nurse (I am NOT yet a nurse, nor do I play one on T.V.), I would recommend you think about seeing a professional who can help you with the anxiety problem. You said that you know the content, so more content/strategy review may not be at all what you need. A psychiatrist may be able to help you deal with the root issue, and pass this beast!

Good luck, you can do this!

You are right perhaps I need to see a psychiatrist, because I seem to be a different person once I sit in the chair when I take the test. Thanks for the advance. Ill let you know how it goes.

If you have test anxiety and you are aware of it, it would make sense that you look for help to deal with that problem.
