Is the real world better than school (my rant)

Published

i hate to make assumptions. i started school anticipating so much. Just about done..passed medsurg...have only one semester left....boy am i disenchanted..It was rough..and im considered a smart woman. My eyes were shining bright now (maybe im tired, burned out) but now my eyes are tainted grrr. Thought i would continue to RN but now im not so sure..........i hope to be satisfied with LPN. I attended school at night. I expected it to be difficult but i feel it was deliberately so....that is my rant!! My professor said.."not comprehensive but analytical" what tha....(sigh) Thank the Lord i made it. So again..i ask is the real world better thanks.

Well the real world can be rough also but I think just the fact that you don't feel stuck like school can make you feel makes it easier. FWIW by the time I graduated I was downright bitter. It didn't have to be so difficult and I'm not talking about the material but the politics, drama and unnecessary stress. It took about 3 months for me to unwind after graduation and feel better. Hang in there, you are almost done!!

;) Thank you so much for your reply. It's always good to hear one is not alone. I was thinking...im not gonna like this ... when in fact it IS the other stuff....that i dont like .. EXACTLY like you said. Thank you for the encouragement...i really needed it. thank you thank you thank you xoxox

I am still embittered with my school experience, and I have finished last year. Working is rough, but that is the only way I'll learn and that is really where you get your experience...not from the books. When you graduate, take a bit of time to search your options, and you may still want to become an RN. You may need to unwind. Also, at this time, you are working under the "protection" of your clinical instructer, provided that you don't overstep your boundaries. The real world will show even more incompetencies, but, it takes time to search for the best sort of position for you, and this may give you the incentive to continue your nursing education. From a personal perspective, I don't plan to become an RN, but that is a personal decision. Don't let things ruin your dreams. Continue, at least take the boards, and then unwind a bit and search your options. Most people do need a break after classes and boards are over and most do, in fact, continue with their RN studies. Best of luck!

thank you for replying. im sure there will be more incompetencies but once SHOWN, i will be alright. it is the experience i am lacking..... So in simply posting this and reading replies, i am getting excited again !!!

i guess in not wanting to rant out my clinical professors...im stating it another way...*sigh

..really didnt get to do enough...

yeah, school kinda sucked for me, but the transition from school to real world is pretty scary and rough. it takes time to unwind and get used to the floor. the books and clinicals in school became my foundation, but the real world is where youll get your experience. when something happens, you wont have the instructor to run to, but the cool part is, you get to make decisions that can help a person get better. just keep on hanging on, and always trust your gut feeling in the real world.
