Is this Pay too low for Baylor Scott and white??

Published

I recently interviewed for a position with Urology at Baylor Scott and White Health in Temple, TX. I was offered $25.73/ hour with 4+ years nursing experience. I recently moved to this area and prior to interview I looked at BSW pay and reason I went toward BSW was because nurses with my experience pay was at/around $29+ Per hour. Even new grads began at about $25+ with an internship. Unsure here but pay seems too low. I also won't need benefits as military spouse. Has anyone worked in this area before? What is usual pay and position? Also how much experience with pay? Has anyone negotiated offer?

You are getting near Austin in Temple, which makes that a high demand area for nursing jobs. Austin has the lowest RN pay in the state due to market saturation. I would expect to make less in Temple than in other areas. Baylor is also known for having some of the lowest RN pay. Combine the two and you have your answer.

A quick google search showed me that average pay for this hospital was between 24 and 29 dollars. So the amount you were offered seems about right.

Agree - it's a geographical phenomenon. Statewide variation is market driven. Areas with less supply have to offer higher salaries to support their recruitment needs. Although we're a very big state, the vast (!) majority of nurses are employed in 8 (of 254) counties. The last time I ran the numbers, about 20% (1 out of every 5 working Texas nurses) are employed in Harris County (Houston).

Damn that's like working 20 minutes in NorCAL.
