Is it hard getting into Greenville Tech?

U.S.A. South Carolina

I went over the ADN admissions sheet and if I have a 4.5 technical GPA and 42 points will I have a hard time getting in?? I read on their website that people usually have over 40 points when they apply for the ADN program.

The program at GTC is pretty hard. I tell people that my easiest nursing class was harder than statistics at Clemson, and it was. You have to stay on top on your studies and plow through, but it is a worthy program. You can get into the LPN program much easier, and take some of your pre-reqs for RN after you are in the program. That is the easiest and fastest way to get through the program as you roll right into the RN program once you are in. Word on the street, and among the hospitals, is that GTC graduates come out with much more practical and clinical experience. I finished a few months ago, and have found that USC at Spartanburg, Bob Jones and GTC's produce quality nurses. Good luck!

This admissions cycle, the points for students accepted into the ADN program were 47+ and 33+ for the LPN. From what I understand, there are far more applicants for the spring start program, so it's more competitive then.

I believe the points for fall '08 admission were 41+ for ADN and 29+ for LPN, so as you can see, the points spread varies greatly. You have a really good chance of getting in next fall if you apply during the upcoming application period (December through February).

Like someone else suggested, see how many points you have for the LPN because it may be easier to get in that way. If you greater than 30, I would suggest applying to the LPN instead.

Also, I don't understand what you mean by a 4.5 GPA...you can't have anything more than a 4.0 at Greenville Tech.

Yes, this is exactly what I did. I needed A&P II and Micro, so I just applied to the LPN program instead and got in for Spring '09. I am finishing up those 2 classes this semester (along with some general eds for my BSN) while I wait to start in the spring. I did have BIO 112 though (Basic Anatomy & Physiology), so I was able to get my 5 points for completion of all general eds.

Hello,

The best advice is to get all of your prerequsities done prior to entering the nursing program. Prerequisites are not that difficult and it is not that hard to make an "A" or "B". At Greenville Tech nursing courses are 5 weeks in duration. Every 5 weeks you have a different course. It is a fast-paced program but if you study you should not have any problems. Nursing is a great field and has a challenging path. The fact that you have clinical rotation in a big hospitals is a great advantage. Especially, Greenville Hospital Universiy Medical Center and St. Francis. These are places where you can learn a lot.
