How far is College of the Desert located from you?
I am about over an hour away.
I commuted 95 miles each way (190 miles round trip) five days per week to attend an LVN program in southern CA. I also commuted 225 miles each way (450 miles round trip) to attend an RN bridge program in Oklahoma while living in Texas.
When there's a will, there's a way. Not everyone is willing to endure commutes, especially in this economic climate of high gas prices. However, sacrificing your comfort today in exchange for a better tomorrow might make some sense.

If you're looking for a registered nursing program, Mt. San Jacinto CC in Menifee is probably the closest one for you to apply to. If you're willing to commute a bit, there are RCC, CSUSB, Cal Baptist, Everest-Ontario Metro, West Coast University in Ontario, SBVC, And Chaffey CC in the Inland Empire. I don't know for northern SD county if you choose to look in that direction. You should take the time to check out the CA BON website for a full list of approved RN programs.
