Is Co going to be eNLC in 18'???

Published

I've heard it will, I've heard it won't. What's up?

It is working its way through the legistlation right now. ( Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact | Colorado General Assembly ). From what I read on the Colorado Nurses Association they are looking to get this passed prior to the NCSBN enhanced compact start date of January 19th. However if this does not pass then anyone with a compact license from outside COlorado will not be able to practice.

If I had to guess I would guess that this will pass in time. It seems well supported and has sailed through initial conferences on both sides.

Colorado should join the "Enhanced Compact" in a few days. The bill has passed in the Colorado Senate, and should pass in the House tomorrow. The bill has been fast -tracked through the Colorado legislature by the Colorado BON, and the Colorado State Nurses Association, so it has plenty of support.

Colorado (and New Mexico) both passed, and Governers signed, the eNLC this evening (1/18/18). They waited until the last day but it's done now.

Colorado entered into the new Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) this week with the adoption of Senate Bill 18-027. The eNLC increases access to care while maintaining public protection at the state level. Under the eNLC, nurses are able to provide care to patients in other eNLC states, without having to obtain additional licenses.

For nurses with licenses issued on July 21, 2017 or later:

You must obtain a fingerprint background check in order to continue practicing with your multi-state license after April 19, 2018. Instructions on how to obtain a fingerprint-based criminal background check will be distributed as soon as available by the Colorado Board of Nursing. Once you receive that information, it is critical you obtain a fingerprint background check as soon as possible in order to avoid delays in processing your application.

If your fingerprint background check is not completed, processed and received by the Board of Nursing by April 19, 2018, your multi-state license will be changed to a single-state license and you will only be allowed to practice in Colorado.

For nurses with licenses issued prior to July 21, 2017:

You are grandfathered into the eNLC and retain your ability to practice in all eNLC states. There is nothing further you need to do.

Specializes in ER, ICU.

Woohoo! This is good news.
