Hi,
Pretty new to forums. But just wondering if anyone out there is a school nurse and how you like it. I am an LPN who works at an elementary school. Any funny stories? And weird illnesses? For some reason here in FL we have had an outbreak of Fifth's disease.

My daughter just had Fifth's disease. The school nurse said they have had many cases. We are in Missouri.

when a nurse works as a school nurse - does that mean the nurse is an employee of the school district, or an employee of the public health department?

In Vermont, where I am, a school nurse is an employee of the school district. There are many bureaucratic hoops to jump through to get properly licensed. I work under the same type of contract that the teachers do, and am in the same union.
It depends on the way things are set up. Here in FL, nurses work for the school board. But they also have nurses that work in some schools that are Health Deparment employees. Kinda confusing.
