So, I dont start NS until January... but i've real been thinking about the commute im going to have to make when I start going. It is about a 45 minute drive (with no traffic), one way. It is mostly all straight highway, so the drive isn't bad, but its so long! I havent had to drive there during rush hour times yet, and I'm a little worried. I've tried to make it a plan that I will leave an hour and 15 minutes before I have to be there. This isnt so bad on class days, but clinical days i have to be there at 6:30 So ill be leaving at 5:15! ill need a lot of coffee.
I am also worried about the weather.. I live in Pennsylvania, in a mountainous area, and snow storms can get pretty nasty here, and there are always accidents on the road i have to take to school (it is a major interstate). The school i go to has dorms, and i was told that students that arent staying in the dorms are allowed to rent them out for $10 a night if we need to. I am happy to have that option, and maybe I wll do that if i know of a major storm coming...
Anyway, just curious if anyone else is crazy like me and driving super far....

My commute is about an hour away and I have to cross state lines lol. Weather wise there's not much going on except for rain.

I'm commuting about an hour and 15 minutes each way. The weather (snow/ice) will be an issue. I hope my instructors are understanding!!

I will be in a similar situation, driving 45mins to an hour or better on one of the busiest interstates in the area. I am not looking forward to it. Unfortunately I will not have any kind of dorm option for me in case of bad weather. The way I look at it is, likely I will have a similar commute for my future job, so it will be less to have to get used to!

My commute is about 45min or so. Luckily I have found 3 other girls that live around my area so we all carpool together. We live on a peninsula so there is only one main highway to school. Our profs know that we commute and we always leave with plenty of extra time so getting to class on time is usually pretty doable. The only time we have ever had problems was last winter with a freak white out storm. We made it all the way to school then school closed and on our way back home we got stuck behind a 50 car pileup and it took about 4 hours to get home. Just make sure you have a good time buffer and you should be good!

Ditto! Except I have to be at clinicals at 6 am! It'll be worth it in the end! :)

Well, while working on my BSEd, I commuted an hour each way every day.
Now that I'm starting nursing school, it will get even better. My school itself is only about 20 miles away but it is a consortium with 2 other schools. After our first semester, our classes are at a school about 80 miles away and THEN, we have clinicals at a major hospital that is 105 miles away. That's a 2 hour drive!

my commute is about 1 hr and 20 minutes one way. my clinicals are further, generally 2 hours and 15 minutes. so, i am on the road by 3:15am to be there by 6:00am and we have 12-hour clinicals (long days).

Hence why I am moving to Arizona. I live in Michigan so the thought of driving 45 minutes WITHOUT snow is ... well, priceless. I feel for all you people living with the snow, it really sucks.
I look at my 45 minute drive as a time to think, decompress, and spend a little alone time that i will NOT be getting while in NS b/c I also have 2 small children. I think I will LOVE the commute actually. Silence...

My commute at my college where I live now is easy. If I have Clinicals at one particular hospital it is 40 mins away. But so far I only had 3 days there. Now my previous school where I did my pre reqs ws a longer commute. I had to go 30 mins to the main campus to drop my son off at the pre school and than the campus where they had the science classes was another 20 mins from there. So I was looking at about 2 hours total a day 5 days a week.
