So I graduated in May and passed my boards the first time in August. I have applied to what seems like a million jobs and all I get back is "you do not meet the minimun requirements" because I have no experience yet. I swear I haven't found any jobs that don't require you to have at least a year experience. I like in New Jersey but am willing to relocate to get a job. I really want to work in the PICU, NICU or ER and for a job in one of those places I would def relocate to get experience. Does anyone know of any hospitals that are hiring or is anyone else having the same problem as me? It seems like a lot of people from my school are having the same problem, the only people that I know of who have gotten jobs are those that have had tech jobs during school. Please give me any advice that anyone may have! Thanks!

If I were you I would have done some checking other similar threads posted on this website.
Not to be rude but the question like yours is just too common to deserve a reply and it even appears as insincere. No one here will or can give you direct solution to this matter as you've asked.
There are many helpful postings related to this. Check the region section on top of this website, check NJ, NY, and see how they are coping with this difficulty.
Good luck!

Job fairs, veterans homes, nursing homes are always hiring. You may have to take a less-than-ideal job to get that year of experience they want. That's what I'm doing and I am finding out I love geriatrics! Who knew?
Wow, thanks for your thoughtful response. You don't need to be ignorant and your insincere comment doesn't even deserve a response. I have looked at other forums and found a lot there were posted in 2007 so I wanted to make my own to get other people's current inputs on how they are dealing with the situation. I didn't ask anyone of a direct solution or for anyone to come and do the work for me. I hope I don't get a job where ever you're working because clearly you seemed stressed.

Hi!
If you're willing to travel....Texas and the DFW area has some GN openings posted for the THR system (Texas Health Resources)....there are 13 different hospitals in the system, but I am not sure if all of them have openings. They are all for different specialties, so you can check it out if you have time. Here is the website: www.thr.org and then follow the tab to jobs. Hope this helps. I am in a similar situation looking for a new nurse internship. Good luck to you!

dont mind what the other poster said.... thats mean...
you're smart for coming here for advice. if i knew this while i was in my last year in nursing school, i've been more prepared for the real world. but reality is, it is very hard.. i went through a year trying to find a job, and believe me, it was the worst year ever.
this other poster the other day mentioned there was a website with recruiters name. it was very very good. i'm not in the same state as you, but my advice to you as a fellow new grad, is to make urself stand out. A LOT. if your resume doesnt shine, or have extra experiences, it might be very hard.
go brain storm something that involves leadership, community work, involving skills.. do it while you're unemployed. have SOMETHING to say what you've been doing. the last thing the manager wants to know is you've been doing nothing but looking for a job.

Well bless your heart. I don't understand this sort of board policing. It's on topic and what's wrong with someone wanting an individual response to a common question?
To the OP- look in to the Versant new grad programs. One of my classmates got in to a new grad program in Texas that is contracted through Versant. They have locations around the country but iirc nothing terribly close to NJ so you'd probably be looking to relocate.
Also, do you have a BSN or a diploma or an ADN? If you have a diploma or ADN, you might want to consider getting started on an RN-BSN program just to open up your options a little more. In my area, BSNs are preferred and it's still hard enough to get a job with a BSN as a new grad.
EDITED TO ADD: Join the professional associations for the specialties you're interested in, and go to chapter meetings and network. Read the association journal, sign up for some listservs to get a sense of what the issues are in that specialty. Get advanced certifications like ACLS and PALS if you haven't already. Contact the Red Cross about volunteering with them. Look in to Flu Shot clinics.

I am in PA in a relatively big city, and have some of the best hospitals. But I am facing the same challenges as you. I am a veteran and the VA wants experience in fact it seems everyone wants experience. I decided to go back to school for my BSN in the mean time. I know it's frustrating, I've been on unemployment for months I feel like I have applied at every job opening too! Right now I am just happy that I can at least enjoy the time that I have with my 10 month old son. Sooner or later it will all work out for us!!
Thank you all for your comments! And thank you all for understand why I was a bit upset at the first rude comment, I am knew to this forum and not too good at figuring my way around it yet lol I will definately look into those avenues that those of you have recommened. I am actually looking to relocate, but wouldn't mind staying local either. I have my BSN but being a new grad is what is limiting me! lol Hopefully in the near future we will all have the luck we are hoping for and get our dream jobs! It is so overwhelming all of the things that I should be doing, that i was unaware of, like Joining professional associations for the specialties i'm interested in, which is such a great idea, thank you! Good luck to all!!

I just landed my first RN job, I graduated in June, and I am relocating to Tennessee from California. So relocation may be the answer I know it was mine. Good Luck.
