I have an interview coming up for an IR nurse position. I’ve never worked ICU but have worked several years on a step down unit where we are responsible for certain drips, perform bedside procedures, etc. obviously they know from my resume I don’t have critical care experience and are still interested in interviewing me, but how difficult of a transition might it be without working ICU? Thanks!

I’ve been in IR 15 years and never worked ICU. You will be fine! It’s actually not a requirement at our hospital though helpful. Good luck!

Hey did you interview go?? I just started in the ICU but am very interested in IR but I wasn't sure if I stood a change with minimal ICU experience. I have prior step down experience as well. Hope you got it!

I got the job! Just finished my first week and so far I don’t feel like I’m hindered by not having ICU experience. It’s a ton of new learning but I’m liking it so far!
