I just applied to both Inver Hills and Century's 2011/2012 nursing program, I got a letter back from Inver saying I am included in the selection process and will find out on March 1! I have so many mixed emotions and I have worked so hard for this.. I'm scared to death and this waiting is killing me!! I know many of you are feeling the same way, let's vent!

I graduated in May 2010 from Century, and I can say it was a great program. I came in through their mobility program (LPN-RN) so I don't know how semester 1 and 2 were, but I can say the instructors for the most part were really awesome and approachable, and I sure hope you get in. Does being "included in the selection process" mean they're considering you, or does it mean you're in? I've never heard of that, but I know as far as 2 year programs go, Century and Inver Hills are really popular, so good luck.

Hey I just posted about this too! I applied to both schools. I am currently at Inver finishing up my last two classes. I really hope I get in Fall. How are your grades/ classes completed?

I just started my first semester of the RN program at Century... so far the staff have been wonderful. Good luck... by the way, it took until April 21 for me to get my letter- I hope that your wait is not that long!
MaxsMomma: The "included in the selection process" just means I have met the minimum requirements to apply. Congrats on graduating!
lukeslichy: I have all the liberal arts classes finished with a 3.4 GPA and a science GPA of 3.25. I have all the work experience as a CNA. I am so nervous!! Which two classes are you finishing up? Did you get your letter from Inver saying you're included in the selection process?
halkogirl: ohh my gosh that's a long time to wait!! What did your grades look like when you applied? Do you remember what number you got? I haven't even received an e-mail or letter telling me I am in the selection process at Century, the women told me they are behind like 2 weeks!

Yep I got the letter. Nothing from Century though. I am not sure how my grades factor in because I have a prior degree and most of my generals came from that degree. It's a little confusing because I transferred classes from 3 different schools. But I graduated with a 3.6 from my prior college (mainly a's and b's). I have a 3.58 at Inver those are mainly science classes and med term and med dosages. I am finishing A & P 2 and doing Communications online (starts in March) after that I am done with all the classes. I have my 480 hours. I just really hope I get accepted into one of the schools. My backup plan if I don't get into either is to take Chemistry over the summer and apply to Rochester (they have application dates twice a year). Less people apply there so I could possibly start in Winter there as a worst case. I just want to know. What the heck takes them 2-3 months to decide! AHHH!
Well good luck to you! It would be wonderful if we both got in! I feel the same way, I just want one of the schools accept me!! I have been trying to figure out a back up plan, maybe St. Catherine..? I know it's much more expensive but I don't think I have many other options. Well, Inver said we would know by March 1, so that's less than 3 weeks away.. this waiting period is literally killing me!! (and I wish Century would hurry up and send us something!!)
I received number 77 on the list... but the first 60 of those are guaranteed a spot in spring semester. So technically I was "wait listed" at number 17 for the spring semester. Enough people declined admission that I found out by the end of May that I was in the program. My GPA was 4.0, but at the time that I applied I did not have A&P 2 and Micro done (they were in progress).
lukeslichy- I believe that anyone with a prior degree (especially a Bachelor's) gets more points in the selection process- it was that way when I applied so I would imagine that it would be the same now.
Good luck to both of you... keep this thread updated if you hear anything :)
Halkogirl-
Ugh now I am even more nervous. I wish I was able to maintain my 4.0 GPA (I lost it with a "B" in A& P 1 and a "B" in medical dosages). I have heard that about prior degrees helping and I do have a bachelors. It bugs me that they don't lay the points out for you. When I went down to a Nursing program meeting in Rodchester they told you exactly how many points you got for what and then said how many points you needed to have gotten in with their last acceptance (what was the lowest amount they accepted). ARRG. Anyway thanks for the info.
As a side question how often are you in class/lab/clinical that first semester. I was trying to figure out how much I would be at school and it's kinda tough. I am a stay at home mom so I am going to have to find a spot for my kids to go when I am at school.

My inver letter said I wouldn't know until April 1st! EEK!! I considered ST. Kates a bit but I really want to stick at a community college. I have a small fortune in student loans from my first degree and I am trying to not take any/very little out for this degree. Inver has a great scholarship program and I have already been awarded some scholarship funds. I am really hoping to get into inver but I will take anything at this point! Good luck to you too! Wouldn't it be funny if we both got in & got in the same classes?
It is really confusing- there were people that had a lower GPA than me and were finishing up the same classes as me that got a higher acceptance number than me. I think that most of them have a Bachelors degree, but some that I know didn't have it. I know they weigh heavily on the science courses, with those being more points than other classes, but it seems very inconsistent.
We go to class and clinicals anywhere from 2 to 4 days a week. Every week is different. We always have Tuesdays off. Monday and Wednesday morning we have theory. The class is divided in half for lab and skills, so one half goes Monday afternoon after theory and Thursday from 8-2 the first few weeks. The other half goes Wednesday afternoon and Friday. Clinicals are four weeks during the semester- Thursdays and Fridays- you go for two weeks, have two weeks off, and then go for two weeks. Half of the clinical groups go at a time. When one group is going, the other is off of class. It is very confusing and crazy!! You will always have your one day a week that you never have class, but beyond that it varies! I am always scrambling to find care for my four year old :)
I feel more nervous than ever! I contacted Inver Hills and asked them if we would be informed of our acceptance on March 1 or April 1 and they said "Due to the large number of last minute applicants they pushed the date back to April 1." I'm very disappointed that my count down was down to 2 weeks and now it's back up at 6 weeks! Hearing "Large number of last minute applicants" really freaked me out and now I'm trying to come up with some kind of "back up" plan.
