Thinking about traveling !

  1. For several years I have thought about working as a traveling nurse. But that is as far as I have gotten, thinking! My husband would like for me to seriously consider. We would like to buy an RV which would be our home for most of the year and come back to NY for the winter. We snowmobile. I am currently an RN, with certificate in Nephrology nursing specializing in hemodialysis, as well as the unit coordinator. This is the specialty of which I want to stay. However, I concider my age of over 39+ wondering if this would be a factor over my experience. Help, with any information.:uhoh21:

Age is not a problem and I am living proof of it! I began travel nursing at the ripe ole age of 46. I thought I would try just one assignment. My husband joined me when he retired, and we went to places we only dreamed of in the past: LA, SF, Houston, Boston, etc. We took our cat and dog. We went to a warm place in the winter and a cool place in the summer. It was 6 years before we were ready to go home for good. It was a great learning experience and I made lots of friends. I had several recruiting companies who paid for my housing.
You will do fine if you work hard and adapt to each new setting without saying:"This is the way we did it back home.." When in Rome -do as the Romans do. Don't ask,"Where do you store the bandages?" Ask:'Where do WE keep the bandages?" It worked for me. Good luck!

    Welcome to Allnurses.

I used to work with a lot of Travel nuses during a severe nursing shortage and a good amount of them were 39+, if not all of them.

Good luck. The Travel Nurses forum is here:
