Greetings all. Today marked a new beginning. My acceptance letter for the Jan 07 ADN class arrived! My wife beat me to the mailbox and she handed me the letter with a big smile. I think I'll frame it.
My twenty-year corporate career ended in January and as they say, when one door closes, another opens. The end of a career was so much more difficult than I could have imagined. Anyway, I've been taking the prereqs this summer and fall and getting back into the swing of studying. I've been impressed with the level of instruction and even more impressed by the caliber of the other students. It's unfortunate that more couldn't have been accepted. I undertand there were around 290 applicants for 80 slots.
Tonight was a time of quiet reflection. I looked back over two decades in a meaningless job where my sole accomplishment was to help make some very wealthy people just a little bit wealthier. I'm looking forward to the day when I'll have the opportunity to come home from work knowing I helped make someone's life just a little bit better.
In the meantime I'll be studying hard at St. Johns/SBU College of Nursing here in Springfield, MO.
Best wishes and I've enjoyed reading and learning from the other posts.

Congratulations!! It's great that you're so positive about your new direction! I am currently faced with the same issue of working for a corporation with a product that is moving towards commercialisation, and feeling that I'm just another part of the money making machine... I definitely miss leaving work knowing that I made someone's life a little bit better that day. Best of luck to you!
