Welcome to allnurses! What made you decide to make a career change?
I was tired of the optical business. I had worked in various segments of the industry---private practice O.D.'s, HMO clinic, retail mg't, warehouse dept's, upscale optical boutique, and I didn't want to start the circle again.Years ago, in college I wanted to be an equine veterinarian. I was an Agriculture major, and took biology, zoology, and Animal Science courses.Even though it was over 30 yrs. ago, much of it was still in my memory. I enjoyed the medical aspect of optometry, anatomy of the eye, and the wonder of sight. I was priviledged to work with some excellent optometrists over the years who taught me a great deal about the eye and its physiology. I actually was considering sonography before I decided on an LVN program. I was already accepted in a local private sonography-Xray school,(18 mo. program) when I found out the national registry would only allow grads of 2yr. programs (basically junior colleges, or private schools that changed their curricula to meet their standards). The school had withheld this info from me, so I did not attend. Their were no local 2yr. programs, and the JC's have a waiting list--so I decided on a 1yr. private LVN program (Concorde Career Institute). I hope to take my NCLEX w/in 4-6 wks, so I am going to review sessions at school, going over notes, and taking 100 test questions a day on the computer.(CD-Rom with 3000 questions) Thanks! Charlie
