Not what I thought it would be like...

  1. Hi! I'm new to Allnurses (at least to posting in the forum) and interested in further (online) education, since I rarely have time for regular classes. I got my AS in Vocational Nursing December, 2004 and was licensed by August of the following year. However, I waffled back and forth--I'm going to leave the area, I'm not going to leave--so it wasn't until this July that I finally got my first nursing job. Because my mother was an R.N., I had hoped to work for an acute care hospital, but ended up at a nursing and rehab facility. And let me tell you! I usually work the skilled nursing wing and I do get to use almost everything I learned, which might not have been possible at an acute care place. So far, I'm happy with my job, even though the hours are crazy. I guess I wasn't the only one to think that this place wasn't somewhere I wanted to work. Also, there's a big state prison here and most of the people getting their LVNs want to work there. Not me! There isn't enough money in the world to get me to work there. Besides, I'm happy with my job. Anyway, that's enough prattling for now. It's nice to get onto this forum finally and hope we have many more hours of fun in the future. See ya all later! Bye, bye.
