Newborn given carbon dioxide instead of oxygen

  1. Hello, I am new to this so please bear with me. I live in Hawaii and there is a large Military hospital here. In January a baby was born to parents who had tried for a long time to have their fourth child. Apparently the baby was born healthy but needed a little oxygen after birth. The canister was not oxygen however, but carbon dioxide. The baby is now in an irreversible vegatative state. So sad!!!! Why would a canister of carbon dioxide be in the labor and delivery and why would it be hooked up to a mask? As a matter of fact what is that used for anywhere in a hospital?

I think there is a thread about this in the current events forum! So very sad! Or maybe the labor and delivery.

used for laparoscopic surgeries-- no clue why it'd be hooked up to a mask though--an error I would think-- and these cannisters should be color coded &/or labeled clearly. How sad!!
