  1. Hi everyone! I'm really new to this so I have no idea how things work but I'm a nursing student at Hopkins and will be graduating in July. I'm looking to move to Florida to work at the Mayo Clinic or Sarasota Hospital. OR I might stay in the DC area and work at NIH. Does anyone have any input about these places? It's difficult to think about where I'd like to be because it's hard to even know what to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi and welcome to allnurses, danigirl. Hope that you find the answers you're looking for on here. Lots of good information shared by nurses, nursing students, student wannabes, etc. All levels of nursing, all specialties, You're in good company!
I would stick to being close to family if you have it where you are. You will need the cheerleading section of family in whatever form that is while you're in school...Not to say that you'll need it necessarily, just that most folks' families tend to be their first line of defense when the going gets tough.
I couldn't have gotten thru nursing school way back when if it hadn't been for my family! I had two young ones then and my husband traveled all week for a living. It was rough. But I persevered.
Good luck in nursing school no matter where you attend and work after.

You are right..I'm going through school away from my family and I miss them terribly. They live in Florida and that is a huge plus for me moving down there

Welcome to Allnurses. This forum is primarily for introductions and thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself.

I've heard good things about Sarasota Memorial, good ratios and good pay for the area.

Sometimes when you have a specific question about a specific location it's better to ask the question in the state forum we have here that corresponds to the where you're interested in. It sometimes takes several days or longer to get a response there because it's so specific.
