I'm here, Preston! I should be in bed, but what can I say? This place is addicting! Let me be the first to welcome you to the site.

You've got a long, hard road ahead of you, and I wish you all the success you could ask for. I did a BSc in Biology, and got my BEd before becoming a nurse. I took the diploma program, because I figured a BSn. was one bachelor degree too many!

Having already done 5 years of university, I was shocked by how tough the diploma program was. I really had to work hard at it. Well, okay, I coasted through the biology part, but the other stuff was a challenge!

I see from your profile that you're a mature student. What did you work at before you decided to become a nurse?

Hmm that your way of saying I am OLD? :chuckle

    What did I do before?

Military, then security guard at a hospital helping out in the E.R. Then a cook, Then a Landscaper/Maintance man. And then a Production wood worker/Mill worker.
Loved all of the different jobs. But none of them paid very well, or had much security for the future. The military is paying for all my schooling, so I decided to take advantage of that and get a degree. All the mills are closing around here. And the best job market was/is..... hopital work. I like people so I decided to be a nurse. Having worked at a hospital before as a security guard.. I have experience helping out with overdose patients.. pumping peoples stomaches... gunshot wounds... etc. The E.R staff often used me as an extra set of hands when things got busy.

WOW!! That's quite a background! And I never dreamt the ER would use security guards as an extra pair of hands!

You'll find quite a few military types hanging around this site. There's one nurse anethesist who's been working over in Iraq, and has posted some fascinating pictures taken in the OR over there. If you're interested, the search engine on this site is really good at finding stuff like that.

I've worked in the nursery business myself. Put myself through nursing school working as a gardener for a large retail nursery, then for the City of Toronto. Loved the work! Got tired of teaching, though. Too many whiney students who weren't interested in learning. Got tired of playing policeman instead of teaching. Not that there weren't rewarding moments, there certainly were....

Also did security guard work at large public events, then got my P.I. license and did retail investigation for awhile (catching shoplifters). Hmmm....good background for a mod, I guess!!
