New Here!

  1. hi! i'm a student at a 2-year community college & i'm working on my pre-requisites to get into a bachelors' program. fall 2006, i will start the final 2 years (the "real" nursing classes) at a 4-year school.

this is the 1st time i've ever posted to a discussion before! i typed into, "do i really want to go into nursing?" & up this site popped!

i tried volunteering at a hospital when i was a teenager & i hated it. all we did was take out dirty laundry & sit around. my aunt is a nurse, & to be honest, she absolutely hates it & only does it for the money.

so, the question is, "why do i want to be a nurse?" i've always had a desire to help other people (i know, i know), & i really love biology. i'm married & have 2 small children, & i knew that nursing would allow me to help people, but also i thought that the work schedule was pretty flexible. honestly, the money is a big, big plus, but also the career options of nursing. i always thought of nursing as "the woman in the white clothes in the hospital room," but i have found that nursing has no ends to what you can do & where you can work. i'm really excited about my career choice & i can't wait until i get into nursing school in the fall!!! eventually, i plan to go into a master's program. it's suggested around here (alabama) that you wait & work for atleast 2 or 3 years as a bsn-rn before you go into the master's program. the exciting thing is that there are plenty of online-master's programs around here, including where i'm planning on getting my bsn from. i can't wait to get into the "good stuff"!
