1. I am 53 years old and have been in the nursing field a long time. I began as a CNA, then LPN, now an RN. I have lots of different experience. Although I have all this experience I feel very over whelmed as a Director. I have been in this position for over 2 months now. Do I have any advice out there? The past 2 months I have concentrated on building my staff.

What specifically are you having trouble with? Any new role has a transition and learning period. If you can be more specific, someone may have some advice.

Welcome to Allnurses! Maybe hold a staff meeting meet & greet with everyone bringing in their ideas? I always enjoyed working with superiors who have been in my place (CNA). I don't have to explain things to them - they already know it.

    Good luck!

I guess my biggest problem at the present is I don't want to be a micro manger and I believe in the chain of command. Instead of the charge nurses managing their unit they are more interested in pushing the med cart. I ve being working for 2 months on the same problems. Examples. taking the hampers to laundry after their rounds, keeping ice on the thickened liquids, keeping the call light within reach, ice pitchers within reach. I feel like I am still on first base.
