Most of our neutropenia in patients is due to chemotherapy. Lately we have seen a few patients with neutropenia due to viral syndromes.
Question: Are patients with acute viral syndromes as susceptible as patients undergoing chemotherapy when their neutrophil counts are low?

Neutropenia is neutropenia. No matter what the cause, it is just as problematic. Perhaps more so, as you can predict the cycle of chemo related neutropenia, but cannot predict the cycle of viral neutropenia.
