Need some specific information about MRSA.

  1. , hello there i work for a hospital here in orlando florida, i have been in the field for a little over a year. i have worked in areas of the hospital. i worked in pcu for some time. i have also worked icu, med surg, the emergency room, and the birc unit. i now finally work in labor and delivery. well the past couple of months i have been dealing with a very personal situation. and i have come to find out that it is possibly mrsa. the news alone scares me simply because i have children and my fiance whom i love dearly and would not want them go through what i am going through. i need to know how serious can mrsa really be and what are the odds of children contracting it. i know from personal experience that it can be very very difficult, uncofortable. i would not wish this on anyone. i would like to know what exactly are the symtoms to mrsa, and is it really curable for a healthy individual. if any one can be of assistance to me i would greatly appreciate it and i look forward to making new internet friends. thank you. jay jay

check out this website--it has some very good information that may help you . http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh...cable_diseases click on "diseases&conditions" under "site contents" then scroll down and click on mrsa.

Are you a carrier of MRSA or suffering from an infection? Big difference. If someone is a carrier and follows good hygiene, it is very unlikely that this will be passed on to family, unless they are immunesuppressed.
Symptoms have to do with where an infection is.
Obviously, if a carrier you should be cleared-up before working with pts. Have you been swabbed for diagnosis? To reassure yourself (if you are positive) famliy can be swabbed too. Hopefully you have a good infection control team where you work.
If you have to go on IV Vancomycin for any period of time,,, ask for a PICC! Vancomycin has a ph equivalant to putting lemon juice in your eye...very hard on the veins. Good luck
