I am a 58 yr old RN, diploma grad who is married and mother of two married children. I live in WI. I have been a nurse for 30 yrs with 22 yrs experience as an OR nurse. I worked all surgical specialities, last working in cardio-thoracic surgery for 9 yrs. in a large medical center. I left work 6 yrs ago to care for my grandchildren and am thinking of returning for a few days or PM's a week, part time plus call. I am married to an engineer turned cardio-pulmonary perfusionist who works privately for a group of MDs. We actually met right after 8th grade so I didn't meet him at work.
I went on a interview today and almost choked on the salary presented. It was about $10,000. lower than the current median for this area for a staff RN. Acutally, I made $4.00 more per hour 6 yrs ago and asked the DON to repeat her offer because I thought I misunderstood her wage scale. What gives with that!....WI is notoriously high in medical care costs and salaries for MDs, but not nurses?
Obviously, I need to keep looking.
