I am relocating to Florida soon , would like info on relocating as a CNA/ LPN to work

  1. Hi,

I am relocating to Palm Bay/ Melbourne FL. area from NEW YORK. I was wondering if anyone Knows the relocating Liciense/certification process.

I am a CNA with CPR and First Aid

My daughter is a LPN/ and Medical Assistant of New Jersey

I also would like to have a Samples Test from Florida, to look / go over, so I may be prepared and be able to find work upon my arrival. I would like the Samples sent to my house. Who or where can I contact for this for my relocation???

I can't wait to have tyropical weather all year round, No Snow Storms, or Blizzards HOORRAAYY!!!!!!

Okay thanks for all your responses. This will help me upon my arrival to Florida State.

    GOD BLESS

I think you'd better be prepared for a pay cut, Vicky. That's usually what we hear from relocating Northerners. Remember there's no state wage tax, that might help. It's fairly easy to adjust to the wintertime, though. It's 74 degrees right now over here on the west side of the state.

Here's the State BON site with information about reciprocity and licensing. Hope that helps. If you need more info, just PM me or post here. Best wishes.

PS I don't know what a Samples test is, but I believe that if you both hold current certification/licensure, you might be able to find work via the Internet and work under a grace period.

I relocated to Jacksonville Florida from Indianapolis Indiana....I have applied for my license by endorsement but what I wanted to know is that I can actually work on my Indiana RN license until I receive my Florida License?

Towanna, I honestly don't know. But I know where you can get the information. Please don't hesitate to email our Florida BON---link is provided in previous post. I've found them to be very responsive and helpful.

Thanks everyone for your support. In Jersey we call the Pre-Test (Sample). A state test suppose to be for relocaters from other States.

I just want to be prepared for what's basicly on the test and out of State relocaters can look over and study, take the real test upon arrival and get a job in Florida State as a CNA and for my daughter LPN.

I wish it is was so easy as flipping the licienses over. Is it or isn't. I don't know Florida rules when it comes down to this.

    Vicky, God Bless you

    Vicky,

You might find this link helpful regarding CNA certification and reciprocity.

    http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/cna/ap_reciprocity.pdf

It looks like you can download and complete the information from the link. However, you have to have the BON mail you the fingerprint card and you can't download it, so make sure you give them plenty of time to get it to you. They won't process your app until they have that fingerprint card. Not sure if CNAs also need the fingerprint card, but I'd guess that they might.

I believe I read somewhere on the board of nursing site that a CNA can work up to tree months as a CNA on current state certificate but that you have to get a certificate in Florida before three months is up.....as for nursing you have to apply for your license and send in app fee and they will send you a temp work permit that you can work under your nursing license for 60 days while they are processing you app. I am in that process right now....I just recieve a postcard with acknowledgment of them recieving my app and give them up to 30 days to process before I call with questions. I am hoping to recieve my temp work permit in the next couple of weeks...

I moved to Florida 3 months ago but got the ball rolling on my LPN license about a month before we moved. Go to myflorida.com and they have all of the info you will need. Florida dept. of health is what you'll be looking for. It's quite a process, unless you license can reciprocate w/ Florida. Some states are allowed, but most need to be completely changed to Florida.
I got a 90 day workers permit and then within those 90 days, they worked on switching my license. You can always check to see the status online. Good Luck, there's tons of work all around.
