Hi! I'm new here

  1. Hello! My name is Teresa, I'm an RN and I live in Tennessee. Currently I'm working in my local small town's hospital OB dept part time 2-3 twelve hr shifts per week. We have 2 physicians that currently deliver, they are both gp's and they are great. At first I was a little skeptical, not knowing about their level of expertise/experience, but after working with them a few times, my fears were quickly alleviated. They are both very good with their patients, fairly conservative, and they treat the staff really well. Get this, one of our docs tells us after each delivery what a good job we did and thanks us for our hard work. Can you imagine? I've never had that experience before, where I actually feeled valued and appreciated by the physicians I worked with. Prior to the job I'm in now, I worked in an LDRP with 2 highly seasoned OB docs and it was not a good situation. Both were very aloof when it came to their bedside manner, were very quick to cut, and their availabilty at the time of delivery left a lot to be desired for. So I'm very happy to be where I'm at. The only thing that I dislike is I go back and forth between nights and days, which is sort of hard for me. I'm 35 with 3 children and it's hard for me to adapt as easily as I did in my 20's. So I'm holding out until someone either quits or retires for a more decent schedule. I've been an RN for over 13 years now and have done almost everything imaginable. In a previous post, I described how unhappy I was in nursing because I had always wanted to do OB which wasn't an option when I graduated. So I ended up burning out very fast working in oncology, med-surg, home care, skilled nursing home care. I worked in a management position for awhile which was very stressful. I even went to work for a blood bank as a phlebotomist, I hated nursing so much. I never could find happiness in any of those areas because my heart was set on something else. I thought it was just nursing in general, I was so disspointed. I'm so glad I tried again when I went back to work last year! I have finally found my calling.
Outside of work, I'm married with 2 boys, ages 9 and 5, and a little girl who just turned 2. My boys are sports fanatics and I enjoy watching them play. Our summer is inundated with baseball as we speak. My daughter and I are joined at the hip, our relationship is very special. Frankly speaking, she's spoiled rotten. But in a good way. When I get a little break from the kids, I enjoy sewing, scrapbooking, walking, gardening, watching reality television, of course the computer, I have my own message board for mommies. I also bake cakes for the public every now and then, birthdays, showers, and the occasional wedding cake. I stay pretty busy and very tired. *sigh*
That's my story and I'm glad to be here.
