Hello Everyone

  1. My name is Shirley. I am very excited about this site and having the opportunity to meet other nurses and hear their stories. I came across this site while looking for information on how to get my own PRN nursing service started and I have a feeling I will get some great advice here. I am a Registered Nurse. I specialize in Home Health. I have always had a great interest in nursing and business. I see a need for a PRN service in my area but I am not sure how to get something like that started. I have worked as a PRN nurse in the past and feel it is a great service. I would like to be able to offer this service to my area. So, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am just getting my RN, but have worked as a LPN in home health. I love PRN services too. However, the paperwork is difficult if you do any home health. Medicare paperwork pushes many nurses out of it. However, are you talking about PRN staffing for hospitals and offices? I am willing to bet that medicare paperwork is not an issue, but certification is. The agency that I work for now PRN does home health AND temp staffing. I can ask them, but it will be awhile before I can get back to you. I am supposed to be working on a concept map now! It is called avoidance.... :uhoh21:

The type of business I am hopeing to start will supply hospitals, nursing homes and doctor offices with a nurse when needed. It is a service we need in the area I am in. I have worked for Home Health for several years now and I love it but the paper work is outrageous and being on call all of the time is taking it's toll on me. Don't get me wrong I have always been a hard worker but I would just like to have some control over my life, for a change :chuckle

Hi there. I just signed up for this forum and your the first person Im writing to Im in the process of researching nursing schools and different programs. I just wantedt to get your opinion on the pros and cons of being a nurse in home health versus an acute setting. As a home health nurse, are you always on call, everyday every hour? How does that work? Thanks.
