1. Hi, I'm Jane, from Hertfordshire UK.

I'm just applying to start an access to nursing course (been planning that step for a year now - had to wait for daughter to settle into full time school first).

I am v.interested in going into oncology nursing but am unsure of the 'route' to do this as yet.

My mum was a cancer survivor for over 20 years before she lost her battle and I guess growing up with cancer in the family and being around hospitals etc so much has left an impression (a good one despite it all).

I have been considering a form of nursing for years, and have really only realised my leaning to oncology in the last 12 mths (husband was a little surprised when I first mentioned it).

Anyway, I hope to be studying at Oaklands College for the first year then Hertfordshire University (Hatfield) for the 3 following years. scary stuff 4 years ahead of me planned!

Good luck Jane, you'll do great :hatparty:
Maybe you could try asking the UK forum with regards to which route to take, although you would probably do best going the adult branch route and then specialising, but check it out as it's been a while since I've lived in the UK.
Sorry to hear about your Mum, I think she would be very proud.

    thanks both!

emmy, have got a bit more of an idea now, and it is pretty much as you say, to hope i can get a position with the right experience once qualified, then specialise from there.

at least it's not the most popular nursing field i expect (midwifery seems top choice all over).

off to sort out my first year course to get me to uni (scary stuff) over the next week.
