Gonna take the plunge

  1. Hello. I am new to the site and new to the thought of nursing. I am planning on beginning my college career after not finishing 14 years ago. I am a bit nervous about embarking on this adventure. I understand there are only 20 spots available in my local nursing college and they usually have about 100 or so applicants for those spots. Is the NESI difficult? How much math is on there? Any pointers for me?

    Thanks!

Hello and welcome to allnurses! Congratulations on going back to school! Good luck! Sorry dear, but I think you may mean HESI (Health Exams Systems Inc. or something very close to that), as I have not heard of a NESI test! Unless a new one is out there--HOPE NOT! Seems we have enough tests already! Are you applying to college or the actual nursing program? You mentioned the 20 spots available, have you actually applied? How are you coming along with pre-requisites (Biology, Microbiology, etc.)? Nursing math is quite different in that there is mostly ratio/proportion, iv calculations, and different types of metric conversions. Check out all of the resources here before you go any further with questions at this site, there are wonderful things to find--along with some not-so-wonderful things as well, such is life!!!!! Just go into Search and type in a keyword or two--take care 4 now!!!

I guess I did mean HESI, sorry. The actual nursing program only has 20 spots each year. I am going to start taking classes in the spring to help with the pre-req's. Seems that most programs start full throttle in the fall. My mother was a nurse so I am quite familiar with the rewards and drawbacks to being a nurse.

Thanks for the welcome wagon and I'll be sure the search the site!
