I have just joined this site today, as part of my fact-finding mission on Nursing in France. To summarise, my mother and step-father who are now in their mid-sixties, went out to live in France 5 years ago. I want to go and live over there to spend more time with them, but will need an income!
I speak French fairly fluently; I taught English in a Primary School for children with behavioural problems, near Bordeaux for 12 months (ok, so it was some 20 years ago!) and did a Languages degree, before completing my Nurses training at St Thomas' in London (at the Florence Nightingale Schl of Nursing, which sadly is no more). Have worked mostly in Surgical (General, Vascular & Lower GI), spent some time in X-Ray and Outpatients, and later became a Colo-Rectal CNS, supporting patients newly diagnosed with bowel cancer.
Am currently running my own health & nutrition business from home, and also teach Modern Jive in the evenings, so life is very full! I know I need to get back into nursing - and guess I'll have to do a refresher course... (?) I left nursing 2 years ago, when the daily 1 1/2 hour commute and 50-60 hour week got too much!
I'm trying to find out what hoops I need to jump through to eventually get myself nursing in France. Trouble is, there don't seem to be many jobs going even in this part of the world (Staffordshire/Derbyshire border) here in the UK, to get myself back in the swing of things!!
This looks to be a brilliant site, though, so I shall start trawling through the numerous posts that might be useful.
Meanwhile, if anyone has any advice or info to help, I'd really appreciate it. Equally if anyone else is planning on either going back to nursing, or going out to nurse in France, it would be great to hear from you, too.
Keep on dancing
