Experienced nurse in psych; want to change specialty

  1. Hello everyone: I want to change specialty from psych to become well rounded and move into med/surg. so I can eventually go into case management. Any suggestions? Would an internship be appropriate for me?

Well, as an ex-psych CNS who now works Med Surg, I can relate.
    Change is good.

Med Surg always needs help. I would recommend applying and interviewing like any other field of nursing. Many nurse managers will put new hires from other specialties (who need a change) into general orientation...like a new grad. No problem.

    Wish you the best!

I switched from Psych to Med/Surg a little over a year ago. I got a 2 week orientation, like any other experienced nurse. It was a difficult transition, but it is possible.
