Another Nervous Nursing Student

  1. Hello,
I found this great site this summer and this is the 1st post I've submitted. I've been an LPN for the last 13 years, starting in a nursing home, then homecare, and for the last 6 years I've done agency work mainly in nursing homes. Now I'm back in school 3rd semester and WOW. What a shock!!! It really shows me what kind of work I haven't been doing over the past years. I feel as though I've been a high paid med pusher. and that's all I have been doing. My 1st care plan I turned in last week stunk, and when the instructor fired off questions at the end of the day, I was dumbfounded. I really can't think that fast. But then everyone in my clinical pretty much felt the same way, so it wasn't just me, but still I can't help thinking maybe being an RN isn't for me. Anyways, thaat's my story, oh and I have a husband, a teenage daughter and a preteen son, who all think they're getting a new 4-wheeler when mom graduates. Nice to meet you all, thanks for letting me vent, any advice appreciated, and have a Great day!!

Don't give up on yourself. Nursing school is hard. If it was easy, then everyone could do it. I went back to school to become an RN at the age of35. It was not easy for me as an older student. When I started the program, I didn't even know how to take a blood pressure. No previous experience at all. I had to relearn how to study all over again. You have a lot going for you with your previous experiences. Nursing care plans can be hard and time consuming at first. But,it will get better. One day it will just "CLICK" and all come together.

Welcome to allnurses! I am sure the instructor wants you to know what you are doing and why.

When you can, drop by the General Nursing Student Forum at: https://allnurses.com/forums/f50/.
