interview at SLO (CA) men's colony prison... need ADVICE

i have an interview on wednesday at SLO (CA) men's colony and would like some advise.

i'm a new grad but i have tough skin due to my rough experience growing up.

has anyone else interviewed there? any tips/advise for the interview?

i know i should wear a business-type attire and to always emphasize inmate security, staff safety and scene analysis... also independence and knowing prison policies... anything else? thanks a lot!

Not interviewed there, but that said not all the questions will be safety related. When I intvw for current job there was two lt's and a nurse. They asked situational type questions....response calls what do you do?, which call do you go to first, what if you meet officer resistance during a call?,etc...They may challenge you as they did me and try to see if you will change your response....Don't. These places don't want wishy washy nurses...they need a direct answer now! They don't have for the most part any medical background and need you to direct the scene. Make sure your skills where they need to be. As the only nurse on a night shift I can tell you things get ugly quick, be prepared....GOOD LUCK!

P.S. Wouldn't trade correctional nursing for anything...love it!

Keep the interview on a nursing level - you are not the security there. They should have about 5 stock questions that they ask everyone applying for your catagory of nursing. Other than that the interview should be quick and painless. It is a company inviting you to join them. Ask any appropriate questions that need clarification at this interview but interview in the CDCR can take from 5 minutes to 15-20 minutes.

Hi Mt,

Many nurses have never worked in a prison before, so don't let your lack of knowledge of prison routine bother you. All of us were new to the system once. Try to say, "I chart everything I do" during the interview.

Hi there. I know this post was as while ago... but was curious how it turned out. Did you interview? How was it? Did you get hired? How long from the time you got a letter about your interest til you got the interview?

How are you liking the job,(if you got it)?

I appreciate your answer.

Thanks,

jennifer

I am applying as a new grad as well. How did your interview go and did you get the job? Do you like it?

for the OP, and Jason, how was the interview, what type of questions did they ask, and how long did it take for you to get an interview from the time you applied... thanks...
