Interview with Samuel Merritt for ELMSN Fall 2008

Published

Hi all. I just got a call today inviting me to an interview on March 8th for the ELMSN program for Fall 2008. Anyone else interviewing on March 8th? Anyone who has interviewed that has any words of advice as I prepare for the interview? I understand that Samuel Merritt may not wish for those who have already interviewed to be sharing specific details but anything that prior interviewees could share to help me prepare would be much appreciated. Thank you! ;)

Congratulations!!!

Is that for CM or FNP track?

Thanks for the congrats! I am applying for the FNP tract.

Butterflyeffect,

I also got an interview that day for the FNP. Congrats..

Carly84,

Congrats to you too! Now if we could just get some advice on the interview! ;)

I will be at the interview as well!

Congrats Crisbiss!

Hey Everyone,

I've been accepted to Samuel Merritt this Fall for the ELMSN Case Management track. As for the interview, being that I was interviewed by a faculty member of the Case Management program, I can only tell you the main questions that I was asked. The FNP track may and probably will differ but I think there are some general, yet very important questions. The first is:

Why have you chosen nursing and specifically the Case Management program (or FNP program for you all)?

Second: Tell me a current issue that is occurring within the nursing profession that you feel strongly about.

And third: What are your strengths and weaknesses? (And do give an actual weakness BUT MAKE SURE you stress what it is you are doing to make it right. I believe those weakness answers such as "I am a perfectionist" are very transparent and generic answers and I feel the interviewer will see right through it. But that's just my opinion. I gave an honest weakness and how I am changing, growing, and maturing as an individual to address it. It must have worked for me)

Hope this helps and good luck to you all!!!

i'll be at the interview too!... ahhhh super nervous!

I know how you feel. Super nervous here as well. I will be coming straight to the interview from an all night shift out in Menlo Park :uhoh3:

Hopefully I will not be too bad off with no sleep (just look for the girl doing the rubber neck head bob :lol2:).

Good Luck to you!

At the FNP interview they asked you first about an issue in nursing that mattered to you. I would recommend the Universal Healthcare response cause one of the lady's is a big Hillary supporter. Also, add another issue too if you wanna stand out, but I warn against not at least mentioning Univ Healthcare if you want to get in. Then they make you do a special walk to signify your journey thru the program and then explain it. Next you have to choose between 2 tests one being harder and one easier, but the harder one counts for the more. Then explain why you chose the one you did. Oh yeah after the walk you're suppose to say what you learned about yourself out there on a sheet of paper. Last they ask you to tell the difference between an FNP, RN, & MD.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for all the input...the "walk" sounds interesting. It actually sounds like the interview will be a lot of fun. :yeah:
