Hello :) Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out, I know you are all super busy. These questions are for a paper I have to write for my nursing professionalism class.
1. How do you as the registered nurse apply the role of professional nurse in the work place?
2. Can you give an example of a professional ethical dilemma you have encountered and how you addressed it?
3. What professional characteristics do you feel are the most important to incorporate in caring for patients and why?
Thanks again! Take care :urck:

1) I feel my professional duties include evaluating patient care and implementing new strategies when things are not working. Among my most important roles is that of patient advocate and also of team leader and care coordinator amongst non-licensed personnel. The ability to delegate specific tasks is very important.
2) I encountered a professional ethical dilemma when I was caring for a patient who had immigrated from Mexico and had met death by brain criteria. Due to cultural and religious constraints, his family felt he should be kept alive on a ventilator indefintely. We had many issues to address, including a serious language barrier, so I referred the case to a professional ethics committee that included doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and clergy of the family's choosing. Part of reacting to an ethical dilemma is knowing when the situation is too complicated to handle alone. Many heads are often better than one. In the end, a compromise was reached that allowed dignity for the patient and acceptance and proper expression of grief for the family.
3) One of the most important professional characteristics is the ability to remain objective. It is the least employed, as well.
Thank you so so so much for doing this, I truly appreciate it! :)
