Hello, this is my first time posting. I graduate next month and have a second interview (peer interview) tomorrow morning. :uhoh21: Does anyone have any advice? I'm sure they will ask priortizing questions and I'm unsure as to what to say....maybe common sense? Has anyone been in a peer interview or been on a peer interview panel? ANY comments or advice is greatly appreciated....and preferably fast!! Thank you in advance.

Just relax and you be you. Be sure to know your strengths and spell them out when given the chance. Know or have in mind what your goals are, in the next year, two years and beyond. They often ask this. Also know what questions you want to ask, like patient-nurse ratios and other policies. Do they have midwives? Dress the part, not too dressy, not too casual. No perfume, etc.
Peer interviews can be tough. Just remember, you are also there to decide if they will be a good fit for YOU, not just you for them. Let them feel you out, and you them as well. Don't sweat it ---I found these to be ok, really. They are all just nurses, like me, and I just talked to them about OB nursing issues, which for us, is always common ground.
Just breathe deeply and do your best. Try not to worry and let us know how it goes.
Thanks for the advice. However, being a new graduate, do you think they will ask actual OB questions?? Basically, should I study anything?

Hey!
I'm graduating in December and had one OB interview today and another last Monday. The interview today went really great, but it was a panel interview and I was definitely asked OB questions. They used the panel to assess my level of knowledge about the specialty. Seriously - know your late decel interventions and common drugs used in OB (Pit, Mag, etc) along with their potential complications. Also, review all paperwork they give you beforehand and formulate some questions. The key to interviews is to be interested in the position (it shows) and knowledgable about the field. Preparing beforehand was key. My interviews went great, and I feel as if I should receive offers from both facilities (they both unofficially offered me the position). Good luck!
Really!!! Now I am a little worried...I haven't studied OB in a year!! Well, I suppose it would make sense to start studying it now if I want to be in this field...my interview is in the morning though. Maybe I should just study some basic stuff. Thank you and good luck!

Remember your ABCs. When in doubt, give O2. Don't be afraid to say you don't know.
Klone is right; never pretend to know what you don't. Trust is a huge thing and they will know you don't know much about OB anyhow. They know new grads do not know much about any specialty. They are willing to help you learn. Show your enthusiasm to do just that.
