International Student MD- what school?

Published

Hi, all! :)I'm in the US (temporarily) in an F1 students' visa and I want to go to a community college in MD/DC to do my pre-reqs and clinicals then transfer to a university for my Bachelor's. The rigorous training and education that American schools provide their soon-to-be RNs are nothing less than admirable. I want to be educated here to hopefully improve the working conditions in my country as soon as I get back there.

I went to Anne Arundel Comm College but for another major and the nursing program there is tough and they give priorities to RESIDENTS. If I'm on my student visa, I will be last in their waitlist even if I have a 4.0 GPA and high scores in nursing assessment exams.

Howard Comm College is NOT accepting international students in most or any of the allied health programs like nursing, radiology, etc.

I'm now interested in Comm College of Baltimore County CCBC as I've read in here that they do not have a waitlist and that your GPA and TEAS score are what makes you qualified. No waitlist--Is this true? Would anyone know if they factor in residency in the process of selecting students to get into the RN program? Do many out-of-county, out-of-state or international students get in the RN program?

Any kind of help would be very much appreciated! :)

I am sorry that I don't have answers to all your questions. Out-of-state and international students status is not an issue, an entrance exam is mandatory, and a high GPA is definitely a foot in the door; I am not sure if there is a current waiting list. The best advise that I can give you is to call and schedule an appointment with an advisor. The Comm College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Catonsville or Essex have a great ADN nursing program. Ranked top against Johns Hopkins and University of MD Nursing Schools for passing the NCLEX, the nursing board of exams, we are pretty proud of this! The course work and clinical experience you'll gain are top notch. The nursing labs are equipped with high-tech modules; clinical settings: Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, all Baltimore based Medstar Hospitals (Union Memorial, Good Samaritan, and Franklin Square Hospitals), to name just a few; and the course work is challenging... setting the students up for success! I am an Essex CCBC alumni and proud to have gained my RN degree from CCBC. I am currently completing my BSN through Notre Dame of Maryland University.

If you do land a seat in a Baltimore nursing school I may one day meet you on the floor! I wish you luck in gaining entrance into a great nursing program and in all your future endeavors! ~A (moonlitfirefly)

moonlitfirefly Thank you for that! Will call an adviser as soon as I get some of my paperwork done. I did hear about it being one of the best schools. Were you initially accepted when you applied to the RN program?

Yes, I applied and was accepted right away. I think a GPA of 3.8 helped. Get your papers in order ASAP and best of luck!
