Can first year nursing students (well I'll be done with first year next week) work as PSW? I'm trying to get a job for the summer and I know that healthcare settings hire nursing students as PSW -I'm just not sure if they want students from 2nd yr and up. If so, does anyone know how, or which sites advertise PSW jobs, or where else I can look? I'm looking for a position anywhere in the GTA. I've been searching online at some sites, but I've only found one. I'm going home next week so I'll also try looking in the local newspapers, etc. I desperately need a job this summer. Thanks for you help!

I knew lots of students from nursing school who worked as PSWs after first year. But, thats because bascially by the end of first year we had already completed all the skills PSWs do, and had completed clinicals in nursing homes.

Depends on your program I suppose, and what exactly your first year consists of. If you only did nursing theory type courses, and sciences than probably not.

I am not aware of any websites for PSW summer jobs. I would apply directly to any homes near you, both nursing and retirement. I am sure that some would want help for the summer even if it's just for holiday coverage. I would start by calling the DOC of any facility you want to work at and see what they say.

Just FYI...I don't live in the GTA, however I do live in Collingwood. I know that it is 2 hours north, but you never know who's willing to relocate.

Up here, you could get a nursing student PSW job tomorrow. I just finished my first year as well and had 3 job offers. Owen Sound, Meaford and Thornbury are all hiring and desperate for PSW's.

Collingwood is a great place to spend the summer.
