hello! i got a question. im also been contemplating on going for australia particularly in sydney since my uncle lives there. anyway, i haven't had any hospital experience yet here in the phil so is it a MUST before you can register with the board to have a working experience?
im kind of willing and since apparently there a little way around the bridging course, to go for it.
oh and another thing. is there no way for the board to consider toefl-ibt? i got really got marks and was hoping (saves time and money) that they can consider it.
i'd really appreciate any help!

..And the country where you got your years of experience should be from any of the following: Ireland, UK, USA, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, and I think Singapore..otherwise you'll be required to undergo the bridging course.

If La Trobe University was involved (Is it stated in your trancript of records?), I believe your Nursing curriculum is similar to that of Australia's so you have a big chance of not required to have a bridging course especially if you have several years of experience as a nurse. Australia adopted the specialist nursing curriculum (students are required to select a field of specialisation in their final year where they spend most of their time-OR, Paedia,ICU..etc) while USA nursing curriculum is of the generalist type hence most Australian nursing graduates end up with lacking no. of hours in maternal & infant nursing when their TOR is evaluated in the US.

Hi!
Once you pass the Bridge course, how will you register as a Nurse in Australia? Is it only documentation/paper works or is it like you have to take an exam like NCLEX and pass it?

Hi,
I have a question. Can a new RN graduate (NO EXPERIENCE) of a US nursing school, register in Australia? Or, do they ask for experience?
Let's say you find a job and apply for '475' visa. How long does it take to receive a visa?
Thank you.

Thread moved to the International forum as per the new rules in place here. Anything having to do with licensure and/or immigration issues need to go to the International forum.
We are trying to save the sub-forums for nursing issues only in those countries. Immigration questions are completely separate from working in a country and many of the local nurses in a country are not aware of the requirements as a foreign nurse.
Thanks for your understanding on this.

Spot on Suzanne4! Many a time have tried to explain to posters that since most of us were born here in Australia, we have NO idea about immigrating here!
Thanks for this.

how does the process compare for american nurses? so far i've researched the process and i have seen that the visa is easy to obtain as a nurse and that it is expidited if you have a job waiting...also, can you make sense of the currency exchange? $1 usd =____?thank you!
