Police checks and Temp work permits

My husband didn't need one when he got his TWP but I did get them for both of us as we plan to get PR within a few months of arriving and it would be easier to get whilst still in the UK. They are valid for 12 months.

You are aware because you are a health care professional you will need a medical before arriving and working so better to get TWP sorted whilst still in the UK

We are moving to Toronto Canada in July and so am just trying to get all the info for the Temp Permit.

Does anyone know if a Disclosure Scotland form counts as a police check as we both live in scotland ??? :confused:

Not that anbything is going to show up its just the time element :saint:

You might not need a police background check for your TWP, but in all probability you'll need one to get a job. Most health care employers now are requiring them and a child abuse registry check too. I think you have to get them from Interpol, but I could be wrong.

Yeah i have a degree and have a firm job offer,

However i have now been told that we need to have a police check and medical AFTER we have received the LMO acceptance.

Is this true or should we follow the CIC website that states that the police checks need to be completed no more than 3 months before we submit our application (at port of entry) ?

Also is a medical needed for a temporary work permit in Ontario ??

As I understand it application has to be done from the UK because you are a healthcare worker and process is on average 4-6 months and you will have a medical before TWP is issued. There are a few UK nurses going through the process currently and one of them may pop in and give their experience. For me it is slightly different because I am already in Canada but I do know I can not work in the healthcare profession without a medical. I have just started my application with NS nursing board

Hi Guys,

thanks allot for your help so far but we are applying at the port of entry and so shouldn't have this 2-6 month wait.

Does anyone know how applying at the airport in Canada changes the time frame for getting a medical as surely it shouldn't take that long to just get the medical opinion ??

Are you as the nurse applying for the TWP? You can not work without it and I doubt they will give you the TWP with no proof that you have had it as all the forms have to be there. I know that when my husband received his at port of entry (did get letter from London in 4 weeks stating he met conditions) they did tell me that as a RN I could not get a TWP without a medical

As far as i am aware Applying through London is simply to get the thumbs up that you have all of the info ready for applying at the airport.

However i am bypassing the London office as we have an immigration lawyer so all of our forms should be correct.

What i want to know is:

1. can we simply get the medical from the doctor and present it at the port of entry ??

2. Will this cut down on the time scale as we are not waiting for London to say "yeah its all present and correct" ??

the medical has to be done by someone recognised by the Canadian immigration I do not think you can just go to your own doctor to have it done.
