parking onsite

Hi all

Just wondered what other hospitals charged for parking onsite? my trust is just about to raise their parking rates for parking with only a tiny ammount of space avialble a ratio of 1 in 8 ppl getting a permit to park. I have looked about on the internet and have found various stories of staff protests at rate increase but trusts dont seem to make their rates for staff easily accsesible.

I don't drive, but I know only two of our nurses (out of 50+ in A&E) have permits and there is virtually no patient parking... where there is, its £1.50 per hour and only after 5pm!!!! Parking in the surrounding streets is resident only, I guess the council are promoting public transport, but as someone who's journey would be 25 minutes by car and 1 hour + by public transport, it frustrates me no end.

I guess it depends on where you live and work. I know locally a trust charges staff £50 per annum for a permit and local car parking charges can be anything from £1 an hour to £10 all day - quite prohibitive really, especially as this is a small town hundreds of miles from London.. I guess in London you have the dreaded inner London charges / taxes too.

I travel by car but then I go around the region to different sites 200 miles apart. I am lucky because sites I travel to don't charge for car parking but there is always restricted space - perhaps we should be campaigning for better public transport...
