Need to take a course to be eligible for RN exam

My wife is a foreign-educated nurse who is trying to become eligible to take the RN exam here in Texas. One of the requirements for foreign-educated nurses is to have studied Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing. My wife's nursing school did not offer this course at that time.

Does anyone have any idea how she can meet this requirement?

She can take the required course at a community college in your area, I would first check with those that are near you for her to attend as a guest student.

Let me know if you do not come up with anything there.

Thank you, Suzanne, for your response. Actually, we've already contacted two schools - - one mentioned there were no openings, and the other said the course was only open to students enrolled in the full nursing program. I've not been able to find any information online on taking stand-alone courses.

Sent you a pm, look for it.

Hello ! I am a foreign nurse too ( Romanian ) and had the same problem with Mental Health / Psych nursing . Fortunately , I could attend some courses in my country but before that I made some research and found some available courses at Maricopa University in Phoenix , Az . You can make a try !

Thanks for sharing the info!

We've been contacting almost all the nursing schools in the city we live in (Dallas, TX), but no luck! It seems there's no vacancies at any schools around here. Actually my wife's thinking about going back to her country to take this course.

You mentioned taking the course in Arizona. Have you taken the course yet? If so, how were you able to apply the credit towards your CES report?

Keep me posted, and thanks.
