Hi all,

I'm in my final year at nursing college and my elective placement is coming up in october, I would really love to spend the three weeks in the US, however i'm not sure if i'll be allowed. Can any one share any experiences? or do you know any one who was able to do this for their elective placement. Your help would be appreciated,

Thanks all, Kat

To be honest I think it will be hard as you will need insurance, ?visa and I am sure there will be some other issues. You could ask Suzanne in the international forum and she may be able to give you a better answer. I remember some students at my local uni a few years ago trying this and there was lots of issues that made it worth trying somewhere else

I am sure you can organise your elective abroad. I know girls who did placements in Australia. I havent heard of any doing there elective here in the US but there are bound to be some. Can your university advise

We had a student nurse from ARU (formerly Anglia Polytechnic University now Anglia Ruskin) where I work who had done her elective in New York with absolutely no problems at all. She was full of what a great experience it had been.

The only bar might be the costs but she didn't seem to say that it was extortionate, although I never really asked her. I suggest you go ahead & ask at your uni. As it has most definitely been done.

Thats fantastic news, :rotfl: That's the uni i'm at (Anglia ruskin). If others have doen it then there's hope for me yet. As for the cost, i've just given up smoking and i'm using this trip to keep me me going, what ever i spent on cigs, in now being saved in my " trip to the US fund, he he". The rest i'll find it some where,

Thanks for the info, it's made my day.
