Need Irish registration QUICK!!!!

  1. Hi
Please could anyone give me an idea of how long the average process of obtaining registration in Ireland takes. I'm UK trained and NMC registered.

Myself and husband both hit by NHS cuts in the UK and desperate to get to Ireland. We both have job offers there the kids are registered to start school in sept, just the length of time the registration process is taking is stressing us out, beginning to worry we won't be there by Sept.

Would appreciate hearing about anyones experience of going through this process.

also any comments from those who've moved to Dublin, how are you finding it.

according to their website if your application form is complete and no problems then the decision is usally made 2-4 weeks

    Hi,

I registered with An Bord Altranais in 1998 and lived and worked in Ireland for several years. The Irish board are really quick and helpful.Your problem is with the NMC who can delay things without obvious reason. My advice is to keep a check on when the NMC sends your paperwork.

thanks scotjan, you're right the nmc are a pain
husbands application was delayed for 2 months as he hadn't specified north or southern ireland on the form just ireland, and despite the address to send it to being in DUBLIN.

have also found it takes the irish bord at least 3 weeks to open correspondence and confirm they have recieved it so i'm thinking they must be very busy at the moment.

i also see the HSE is in the process of recruiting 1000 nurses from India so wondering if this is holding things up a bit. So far husband applied back in jan and no word yet although 3 month was due to nmc not knowing where ireland was.

anyway fingers crossed will phone again tomorrow to see if any progress!!

Yes An Bord Altranias are very good, its the NMC that slows things down! It took weeks for the NMC to send my verification to An Bord Altranais but once they had it I had been given my pin number within a week.

Did you both get job offers for the Beacon? Thats great news if you did!

Who interviewed you and which dept will you be working on?

    Hanna
