Hi! Good evening to allnurses members.. I'm an American citizen residing here in California working as a RN.. I just have a question regarding the Fiancee visa.. I decided to arrange the papers of my Fiancee who is currently living in the Philippines right now thru Fiancee Visa.. She graduated from nursing school last May,2009 and I just want to find out..Before she's going to be here in California, does she still need to take her local board exam in Philippines before she can practice to be a RN here in California? What other test does she need to pass before being eligible to be RN here in California?

I know the other things she need just in case she only needs to pass the NCLEX exam (like SSN, working permit and being married when she will be here in USA).. I would really appreciate all your help.. Godbless to all!

Good news for her and hope she does well. At least this way you have a definite answer from the BRN as they are the ones at the end of the day that makes the final decision

Even if she doesn't plan on practising in the Philippines I don't think that is a good enough reasons not to sit the exam.

I have noticed you have posted twice about the person sitting for the NLE. If the California BON has no issues with the applicant not taking local exam I see no reason why it should be an issue for you.

From what I read you are not a California Citizen, nor are you a US Citizen. Do you work or live in USA? Why do you have such a view on this matter?

I cannot speak for Silverdragon, but believe it or not, some people here do care. Most applicants from the Philippines are quite young, and nobody can say if they are not moving eventually again.

For some States I believe and certainly for several countries (if not most) it's essential that you were registered where you've done your training.

So if you choose the easy way now and don't sit NLE, that might impact your future a great deal. So most of us, who are longer in the business and moved countries recommend to sit NLE and get initially registered in the Philippines.

I think you will find that most countries will expect to see that you are licensed in the country where you trained. For many now with retrogression there is a long wait for a immigrant visa for the US and sat waiting is not going to be beneficial and employers will not like the fact that you haven't worked for over 3 years whilst waiting. For the EU, Canada, Australia, New Zealand it is expected that you have a local license before you can register in that country why should the US be any different.

I just want to let you know that you might be able to sit for the exam in California, BUT YOU MIGHT BE ASKED TO PROVIDE THE LOCAL LICENSE BEFORE A LICENSE IS ISSUED TO YOU. My friend was allowed to schedule her test date and sit for the exam, but now is required to provide a local license. Just be prepared and good luck.

Ah yes, the local license requirement by the CABRN issue...still a confusing matter up to this day.

Sorry for the thread revive, but I can't help it because I'm in the same exact situation as the poster, except for my wife (not fiancee). Just got married a couple of weeks ago in the Philippines and am now back in the US, wondering the same exact things as the thread creator. My wife bumped into problems regarding her scrub case requirements, and she's not gonna make the deadline for registration for the NLE this November. I've started processing her visa paperworks. She'll get a visa in about 6-8 months probably, and I don't see the point in her taking the NLE next June if she's gonna be here in the US within a year.

Since getting my RN license back in November, today I still don't have a clear answer whether CABRN is really strictly requiring a local license for all non-US citizens and dual-citizens...or that it is just simply getting exagerrated by other people and that providing a sensible letter of explanation would actually suffice as the poster stated after getting in touch with CABRN himself.

The only decision can be found with the BRN so better to contact them and ideally get something in writing.
