MOHAWK COLLEGE RPN ? ...... :s

Hey everyone,

Im currently a first year nursing student, as I am already enrolled in College for an RPN program I just dont feel it's the right one for me(location wise). It's far from my home and it would be more ideal financially to go to school back in my hometown. Im just wondering if anyone on here has transferred into a semester of Mohawk Colleges practical nursing program. I asked coordinators and receiving all different types of answers. I know it's early to be thinking about transferring but, I'd rather be able to meet the requirements on time etc. Has anyone experienced the proccess of transferring into a semester ? at any college? I was told to apply to Ontario Colleges, but unfortunatly there is no option to apply for the third semester...

I need help.... :confused:

have you tried talking to admissions at the college of your choice? I haven't transferred before, but that's where I would start.

You need to talk to the program coordinator at the college you are interested in transferring into. I transferred from a BScN program into another BScN program after completing 1st year, to a school closer to home.

I was just really lucky it worked out for me. I know there were other students who tried similar transfers to other schools, and could not make the transfer, without losing a year of nursing.

Not all schools have the same curriculum in the same order, and not all have open seats in the semester you want to enter. Example: another school I looked into wanted to start me over in first year, and give me some advanced standing.

If you can at all avoid transferring, its would be a lot easier, and a lot less stressful. If you want to give it a try, be mentally prepared, that it may not be possible, and you may be stuck in your current program till you are done. But talk to the program coordinator, they are the gate keeper from my expereince.

Is the program coordinator the person that could admit me? Because if I am transferring I know it would not be the same proccess as applying and starting all over again.

They would be the person who gives the ok, to admit you. They would need to look at your transcripts and course outlines, to see if they feel they are considered equivalent to their own program courses. They would also be able to tell you if you needed to upgrade or take any other courses to transfer in. For example in my situation, even though I had a B+ in Pharmacology, they felt their Pharmacology was "more in depth" so I needed to take it anyway. I also needed to take a summer course in nutrition, to be on par with the other students. They will also be able to tell you if there are any seats available in that semester. That is who I needed to meet with in person. I would suggest you talk to that coordinator, and possible make an in person appointment, with all your paperwork, if they are willing to meet with you. It is not easy, I was really lucky it worked out.
